This past weekend, my sister Britt and I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Boston-based designer Sam Mendoza at Louis Boston’s new warehouse location on the Boston harbor. In order to prepare for my first introduction with Sam I made sure that I wore something that he would approve of.
Scouring through my closet, I pulled out a wonderful dress I had purchased some time ago that consisted of diaphanous textures and an asymmetrical skirt. Knowing in advance that Sam is best known for his “raw-edged silk dress”, I knew this dress would be perfect.
The next step was to pull it all together! I added a cream colored ruffle pleated jacket, making sure to lose the waist belt that it comes with because a disoriented, flowy, and textured dress would be destroyed, in my opinion, with a well-tailored jacket.
When it came to shoes, I decided to stay with the “raw” and “edgy” theme by adding some vintage leather booties and woolly cream socks…boy am I glad I did this! Sam loved it and it turns out he styled his most recent collection the same exact way! But that’s for another day…
I will invite you into the world of Sam Mendoza sometime soon. What do you think about wearing sheer, flowy dresses for fall when styled with an unstructured jacket and boots with socks? Would you wear this outfit?

the diaphanous dress is also like an assymetric skirt & top…similar effect, more versatile
