Fall is here and it’s time to say “goodbye”, or at least “see you later” to many of our favorite summer wardrobe staples. Those short shorts and flowy tank tops need to be put on hold until next year, along with those open-toed heels…or do they? Is it possible to wear those skyscraper wedges and open toed pumps when it’s chilly out?
We say, Yes!
It’s quite simple to increase the longevity of your open-toed heels simply by slipping some socks on. The right socks are not meant just for heels though; they can work with just about any pair of shoes you own, from pretty heels to boots and loafers.
Currently, however, I am really drawn to the way that socks can add a touch of creativity to your outfit. I was inspired by nubry editor Gretchen Hackmann’s latest post where she added woolly creme socks to a pair of vintage booties! To get her look, try these Cable Ankle Socks By Falke from TOPSHOP or these ruffly ASOS Premium Tulle Ankle Socks
Oscar de la Renta paired socks under nicely tailored open-toe booties in his Spring 2012 collection. It really adds a playful touch to an outfit and I’m sure it’s comfy on the toes too!
There are many different ways to wear socks and heels without looking tacky, but there is a very fine line between looking chic and looking tacky. Ankle socks seem to be the best bet when trying to nail this look. No, we don’t want to see your ‘workout’ socks under a pair of T-strap YSL platform sandals. Yuck! Instead, look for bright colors and neon hues to add some pop or to color-match with the rest of your outfit. These Club Monaco Knit Socks in Venetian Rose are a great option for under $20. A printed sock is also nice!
Do you have any of your own sock ideas or inspiration that you’d like to share with us? We’d love to hear more great ways to style socks!!

Funny thing is that there wasn’t a single foot with socks among the women of the row witnessing the runaway. I couldn’t see a single sock.

it was fall 2011, they were watching the trends for Spring 2012!

I would insist on wearing it, even if it happened not to be as “in” in a while. I think some socks look great, plus it is very comfy, unless the shoe fit so well not to need socks. What about boys wearing loafers and shorts with socks instead?

Thanks for writing this post…just got so much inspiration and the “ok” to wear socks with my heels 🙂

I love the way the delicate pink socks look with the t-strap sandals! So unique and cute!
