Now that I live in NEW YORK CITY – I am blessed everyday with glamour, adventure, excitement…and of course –very few hours of sleep! But it’s all worth it to live in the city that never sleeps and work in the fashion industry with the best. I love my days filled with strolling along the fabulous Madison Ave. and admiring designer duds or navigating the subways and flea markets to spy on some truly unique and amazing “street style”. Three things I have I noticed in NYC so far…
1. The ultimate anti-status symbol: The Coveted “Faux-BIRKIN – BIRKIN BAG”
This bag is THE IT-BAG of the moment for NYC right now. The handbag brand Thursday Friday has taken the timeless and traditional Hermes Birkin bag and turned it into a casual slouchy shopper. So genius! Everyone, and I mean everyone – from famous fashion editors, to Upper East Side moms, to nannies…are dying to get their hands on it. Lucky for those who snagged one early, they are now taken off the market due to copyright infringement! Could it become a possible collector’s item??? My boss has one and she said, “It’s so funny because I take my daughter to school and all of the wealthy moms who are holding the REAL one are asking me where to get it!”
The Miu Miu bag on canvas bag is still available though at Thursday Friday!
2. The Look: After-work subway/finally walking home
Dress to impress! Looking professional and glamorous all the time can come with some blisters. From long work hours, extended dinner meetings, and long subway route walks – your feet take a toll in the city while wearing killer heels. But we all do it – looking your best helps you perform your best! Although…when it is finally time to go home, most ditch the heels and throw on the backups packed away in the purse. I see this everyday. Women toting an oversized Louis Vuitton bag (big enough to fit an extra pair of shoes, lunch, iPad, etc.) while wearing a fashionable dress and then…Sneakers? Toms? Flip-flips?
3. Style: Anything goes in NYC…
You won’t find the standard plain-Jane’s roaming around NYC. If you are…you will just get lost in the crowd. You have to stand out, and no one here is afraid to do it. I love it – the people are far from shy and they are not afraid to make a statement with their fashion, and that is what makes this city so full of life. In a city filled with many stores, so many personalities, influences, inspirations, careers, designers, etc. there are so many ways to show off unique style.
