On Tuesday, February 18, 2014, a large group of San Diego women brought together by Stemcyte, the umbilical cord blood bank, supported the Miracle Babies Healthy Women Healthy Children (HWHC) program.
The Hyatt La Jolla and Stemcyte hosted a beautiful lunch with most women wearing winter white and pearls. Brandi Williams, TV anchor of KUSI, was the MC for the afternoon. Keynote speaker, Shannon Miller, founder of the Shannon Miller Foundation, Olympic Gold Medalist in gymnastics, and the most decorated American gymnast, shared her story of pregnancy challenges, and her use of Stemcyte. Dr. Sean Daneshmand shared his stories about low-income parents of children that are unable to be with their children during crucial times and how Miracle Babies provides resources for these families.
The HWHC program in partnership with the YMCA reduces the number of babies who end up in NICU through weight management and education. Obesity correlates with hypertension and gestational diabetes that leads to more difficult and higher risk pregnancies.
