Last night, I celebrated Fashion’s Night Out: Tulsa Style! I attended Tulsa’s first-time FNO festivities – hosted by Miss Jackson’s located in the beautiful Utica Square Shopping Center in the heart of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Miss Jackson’s, Tulsa’s iconic upscale department store, carries many well known designer lines including Diane Von Furstenberg, Alice + Olivia, Burberry, and Badgley Mischka.
Miss Jackson’s had the brilliant idea to have a clothing design contest as one of the evening’s highlights. The catch: the designers could only use shopping bags, tissue paper, and garment bags from the department store to construct their pieces. The grand prize consisted of a $1000 Miss Jackson’s shopping spree and a feature about the designer in TulsaPeople Magazine.
The contest became personal for me since I work at a college with a fashion design program. Clary Sage College, also located in Tulsa, is a premiere design school offering fashion design, interior design, esthetics, makeup artistry, cosmetology, and nail technology. The fashion design students at Clary Sage College entered the design contest as a class project. Their designs were phenomenal! The fashion show was a definite success!! See some of the highlights from the show below:
In addition to complimentary champagne, highlights included a concert by local Tulsa band The Hero Factor, various trunk shows, and a celebrity guest appearance from Shirin Askari of Project Runway. Although I was primarily there to enjoy the evening and support the students, I didn’t leave empty handed. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to purchase a limited edition #FNO Brahmin tote bag whose proceeds benefit the New York City Aids Fund.
