We are showing you the preparation for the Michael Kors NY Fashion Week Fall 2013 show by going behind the scenes and backstage to see the pony tail hair and Shiseido smoky eye makeup that will complement the peplum, mod looks, and electric colorblocking of the collection. In 5-10 minutes the designer showcases all of the genius in the collection for the world to see with the celebrities, editors, fashion bloggers and retail giants in the front row, so lets see how it is done.
Backstage at The Theatre at Lincoln Center, there is a specific plan as to the makeup and hair design for the show. The Michael Kors NY Fashion Week show commissions Orlando Pita to do 50s inspired ponytails. The makeup is designed by Dick Page who uses Shiseido makeup. He even illustrates the how-to on exactly the way he wants the smokey eye shadow on the models (see photo below). Meanwhile, everyone wants a piece of Michael as he interviews prior to the show.
As busy as it is backstage at NY Fashion Week, the PR teams, TV networks and photographers of you name it magazines are taking note of the important people that are coming to see the new collection’s release. Karolina Kurkova arrives at the NY Fashion Week show wearing a red and black striped Michael Kors suit, matching white pointy pumps and white oversized tote that she is carrying in the 2013 cool way, with an oversized peacoat. The front row also includes Zoe Saldana, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Willow Smith, Paz Vega, Hilary Swank, Rachel Zoe, Anna Dello Russo, Michael Douglas, and Neiman Marcus’ Ken Downing, and Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo.
Trends at Michael Kors For NY Fashion Week Fall 2013
The NY Fashion Week show finally kicks off with bright colored mod style looks dressing a powerful feminine attitude. Models wear mid length skirts that have volume or cropped leggings to allow for a comfortable yet brisk walk in Manhattan. Kors uses bright electric colors including blue, yellow and orange with patent leather long sleeve gloves underneath mid sleeve coats. Peplum is being recreated in fantastic ways by puffing up the mini skater skirt and transforming it into a peplum high front low back skirt (swingback gown). Kors also uses camoflauge print in a few designs even a popular fur coat. He also works the houndstooth or dogstooth print into a fur coat as well. The pointy heels are feminine and sexy, with an elastic Maryjane strap and soled with rubber tread for an added sporty flair.
