Multiple designers at Fashion Week NYC showed leather bomber jackets as a layering tool for warmth in their spring 2013 collections. Rewind back to the 1950s, Hollywood celebrity, Marlon Brando made what we call the “perfecto” leather jacket famous. The perfecto jacket was characteristic by the asymmetrical front zipper and waist belt. Super cool! Just last week, Marlon Brando inspired jackets showed up all over the Fashion Week NYC runways for spring 2013. Get excited ladies!
The trend for spring 2013 is to amp up the original black perfecto jacket with bright colored versions instead. 118 by Walter Baker presented lemon yellow leather jackets with quirky silk parrot pants. Monika Chiang demonstrated the classic black leather jacket with bright orange pants, a baby blue leather jacket with cream separates, and a navy blue fabric perfecto jacket with leather panels layered over various hues of blues and silk. Rebecca Minkoff was also inspired by the Marlon Brando jacket and designed a white leather jacket with a zip-off waist and a longer bright blue jacket for her spring 2013 collection. Noon by Noor paired a variety of orange-hued leather jackets with orange maxi skirts and printed orange palazzo pants. The designer also did a metallic version in a rusty flame orange. OMG, Love?!
