Love Lauren Conrad’s cat eyeliner look? This is a great daily makeup look for business or pleasure. The cat eyeliner dresses up the look of simple eyeshadow and creates more interest around the eyes to make them pop. Cat eyeliner can also be paired with more dramatic eyeshadow for an evening look. For this tutorial, I’ve stuck with a basic day to day eyeshadow application. With practice and a steady hand, this look is easy to achieve! Just follow these simple steps and practice, practice, practice!
STEP ONE: SKIN
For a flawless foundation application, read my Flawless Faces blog, then proceed to the next step.
STEP TWO: EYESHADOW
Begin by applying an eyeshadow primer. Smooth the primer across the lid and up to the brow bone using your ring finger. I prefer Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion. Secondly, apply a creamy, off-white shadow (Make Up For Ever’s Eggshell #3) from lash line to brow bone, covering the entire area. Next, apply a matte white eyeshadow directly on top of the eggshell shadow. I used Make Up For Ever’s White #0. Now apply a plum based taupe eyeshadow, such as Quarry from MAC , in the crease of the eye as pictured. Pull the shadow around the corner of the outside of the eye to just above the upper lash line similar to an upside down Nike swoosh. Next, apply Graftobian’s Grey Cloud eyeshadow just inside and slightly below the area where you applied Quarry. Blend the colors to eliminate any harsh lines. Finish with an application of Nars’ Albatross highlighter on the brow bone and inner corner of the eye.
STEP THREE: EYELINER
Using MAC’s Fluidline in Blacktrack and a small angled brush, apply a thin stroke of liner as close to the lash line as possible. If you prefer, you may use a pencil or a liquid liner. I love the flexibility and control of MAC’s fluidline, plus it stays on without budging for hours. Follow the lash line from the outer corner of the eye to the inner corner while following the natural shape of the eye. Next create the cat eye look by applying the fluidline from the outer corner of the eye slanting upward and outward. You may extend the line as much or as little as you’d like to fit your personal style. Then connect the outer point of the liner to the corner of the eye to complete the cat eye. Lastly, apply a thin stroke of liner under the lower lashes, following the shape of the eyes as closely as possible. Double check your eyeliner application to ensure evenness and make any necessary corrections.
STEP FOUR: FINISH
To complete the look just add mascara, blush, and gloss! You can easily take this look from daytime to evening by adding some smoky shadow and a touch of lipstick.
