The popular San Diego Mexican restaurant, The Blind Burro, hosted their 2-year anniversary party on March 12th, 2015. Known for their Mexican and Baja inspired menu, the anniversary party celebrated the launch of their new Mexican Dim Sum — à la carte, tableside, and ready-to-serve menu items.
The history of Chinese influence in Mexico began roughly 450 years ago, when Spanish trading ships brought silk and other Eastern goods to the Western coast of Mexico in exchange for silver. 300 years later, Chinese immigrants came to Mexico as cheap labor for major projects including railroads and irrigation. As a result, Chinese ingredients like soy sauce became a regular part of some Mexican diets. Mexican Dim Sum? Where do we sign up?!
Our favorites included the Lobster Scampi Tacos — made with Maine Lobster, pico de gallo, garlic butter, green cabbage, avocado – the Seafood Coctel Shooter — made with white shrimp, bay scallops, octopus, onion, avocado, clamato broth — and their Seasonal Shooter, a “Rumchata” made with aged rum, cinnamon, and house made horchata. In addition, The Blind Burro offers unusual menu items that you must try too, including their Lengua Tacos (literally, grilled beef tongue), Chorizo Burgers, and Tuscan Kale Cabbage Slaw. They also offer a gluten-free menu!
Inside, the energy was high and the space was packed with locals, regulars, and media alike. We love a celebration that involves craft drinks and delicious fresh food in a hip environment.
Editor’s Note: The Blind Burro is a popular, go-to San Diego Mexican restaurant located in downtown San Diego, just steps away from Petco Park. If you live in the area or you frequent East Village or the Gaslamp District, you’ve got to try this spot out if you haven’t already!
