The press pre-shopping party of the long-anticipated Marni at H&M collaboration was held last evening at the H&M flagship on 5th avenue, NY. Editors, bloggers, and fashion insiders flocked to the store – 300 invites were sent out – and quickly the space became over capacity. On our way in we passed by The Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine, Natalie Off Duty’s Natalie Suarez, and Trop Rouge’s Christina Caradona. We snacked with WSJ’s Elizabeth Holmes and Elva Ramirez, before having a drink with Nitrolicious’s Wendy Lam, Kelly Cutrone’s ex-assistant Andrew Mukamal, and H&M’s PR guru Jennifer Ward. Also in attendance was Lucky Magazine and FabSugar.

As cocktails, swirled potato chips on a stick, and hors d’oeuvres were served, the merchandise quickly became scarce as fashionistas grabbed every last piece of clothing and accessory from the collection in sight.
The womenswear collection had a lot of bold prints from tribal patterns to polka dots, as well as beautiful combinations of mixed patterns. In true Marni style, the clothes had the straight A-line silhouettes. A standout piece from the collection was a long dress in a bold tribal print mixed with a geometric print – right on-trend for spring!
The accessories were also bold. Necklaces consisted of sequined collars and oversized statement pieces. The earrings were long with big petals and rhinestones and the bracelets were chunky and square (perfect for an arm party). The shoes were very popular especially the gladiator-inspired and silver leather sandals.
Compared to H&M’s previous collaboration with Versace, Marni appeared to attract an older, more sophisticated customer with a higher disposable income. The clothes were not as bright and studded, rather they were done in neutral and rust colored hues with feminine, versatile prints.
