‘Tis the season of black tie galas and charity balls. With the multitude of upscale and fancy society events you will be attending in the coming weeks, a hot topic on your mind is most likely, “what shall I wear”? New York Botanical Garden’s Winter Wonderland Ball is coming up on Friday December 14th, 2012 and with notable guests in attendance last year like Charlotte Ronson, Tinsley Mortimer, Lisa Airan, Chris Benz, Stacey Bendet, Alina Cho and Lydia Fenet, as well as chairwomen Nathalie Kaplan, Nina Garcia, Jennifer Creel, Alexandra Lebenthal and Cristina Greeven Cuomo, you’ll want to be on top of your gala game.

Well, not to worry! The key to looking like a million bucks at these specialty, social parties is staying on top of fall/winter/holiday trends by wearing gowns in the colors of the season: navy, black, mixed greens, oxblood, and winter white. You’ll want to stay warm in a leather jacket or fur shrug and accessorize with a purse or heels done in specialty fabrics like brocade or skins like snake and embossed crocodile, and lastly, you’ll want to show face as if you had just surfaced from a winter wonderland by applying snowbunny makeup – including the liquid cat eyeliner, flushed pink cheek overtop pale skin, cherry lip, and metallic or glitter nails.

This season, navy is the new black! So, rather than attending a holiday ball in a long, black or white gown, as is typical of black tie functions, we’re going to opt for a long, navy gown that hugs our waist, bares skin in the right places, and flows at the bottom – allowing for excellent dance moves. The gown we’re wearing to our black tie gala is Son Jung Wan from her fall 2012 runway collection. We’ve accessorized with a watersnake, black Alexander McQueen clutch (because you can mix black with navy), cherry lip, navy YSL “tribute too” eel pump, and layered for warmth with a winter white leather jacket detailed with fur shoulders, also by Son Jung Wan.
Son Jung Wan’s Fall 2012 Collection is available at Catherina in Oakmont, PA and Miss Jackson’s in Tulsa, OK.
Gown: $1,870 | Leather Jacket: $1,430
