Define Success. Success is very individual…
– Alison Yeung of Mary Ching Shoes
During my study abroad in Shanghai I was determined to scope out the fashion scene and check out who exactly were the major players in China’s fashion industry. As a young entrepreneur with dreams of starting my own business, I find myself gravitating towards people who share the same drive, persistency, and focus. After doing some research, I contacted China’s only luxury footwear designer, Alison Yeung of Mary Ching shoes, and had the honor of getting to know her both in her studio and at her own home. Not only do I have positive things to say about her brand, but also her genuine and positive attitude towards promoting entrepreneurship. She is more than an inspiration, but a mover and shaker, a warm-hearted and kick-ass individual whom I’m very excited to work with in the future.

I was pretty excited as I stepped out of Metro Line 8 station onto Xizhang Lu in Shanghai. Alison’s studio was on Jumen Lu, and not only was I unfamiliar navigating the city, my confusion with the subway station had gotten me a few minutes late to my meeting with her. Luckily, I flagged down a taxi and managed to locate the Mary Ching studio in a matter of minutes. When I arrived, an international intern from New York greeted me along with a cute little pug – Alison’s dog named Dim Sum. I couldn’t help but giggle to myself and feel at ease knowing that I could at least communicate with the people in her studio.
