Aside from Opening Day at Del Mar, the most prestigious Del Mar Racing event is this weekend. The $1 Million TVG Pacific Classic will take place this Saturday, August 22nd, 2015 and will celebrate its 25th year as well as its 1st year in eight years at Del Mar.
If you are an Opening Day and Closing Day goer, then the Pacific Classic is a day you shan’t want to miss…even dedicated racegoers will up their attire and charisma for this very special event at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club! For a look at what to wear to the races, refer to Opening Day fashion tips.
The TVG Pacific Classic features a 3 stakes race card starting with the Pat O’Brien Stakes and Del Mar Handicap. The top contenders include Beholder — two-time Eclipse Award-winning mare — Bayern — winner of the 2014 Breeder’s Cup Classic — and Catch a Flight — winner of Del Mar’s second weekend San Diego Handicap.
A female has never won the Pacific Classic, so if Beholder wins, she will be the first!
On Saturday and Sunday mornings (7:30am-9:30am), you can enjoy breakfast on the Clubhouse Terrace and watch the horses warmup. Gates open at 11:30 AM on Pacific Classic Day with first post at 2 p.m. The Pacific Classic will be the 9th of 11 races during the afternoon.
