On Thursday January 30, 2014 the Local Arts Community celebrated Mission Federal ArtWalk’s 30th Anniversary at the Westgate Hotel. Mission Federal ArtWalk, the largest fine arts festival in SoCal, hosted the inaugural Artie Awards to honor several local art advocates.
Each year, more than 120,000 art lovers enjoy musical concerts and other fun activities throughout Little Italy in San Diego, CA. The fine-arts festival is a two-day nonstop party that is well-known for bringing the entire art community together and making people fall in love with art all over again. The event was free for all who attended, where art was featured, sold, and even created right there in the festival! All the art featured was created within California, a couple neighboring states, and a little more south of the border in Mexico. The art included painting, sculpture, glasswork, photography, and even custom jewelry so even the fashionistas had something to enjoy.
This year, ArtWalk is April 26-27 2014. Follow Mission Federal Artwalk on Twitter at @ArtWalkSD or on Facebook at ArtWalkSD.
“We believe that the mark of every great civilization is its art. We are proud to support ArtWalk’s mission to introduce artists to collectors and cultivate relationships within the art community. Mission Federal is honored to be recognized.”

5 Inaugural Artie Awards Given To Local Art Advocates
- Remedios Gomez Arnau, the Consul General of Mexico, has been helping bring up to 30 artists from all over Mexico to ArtWalk each year. This influx of bi-national flavor creates an art installation that is one of the most popular features each year.
- Rana Sampson, wife of former San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders and non-profit leader, has been an ardent supporter of local artists and ArtWalk for many years.
- Constance White is known for overseeing a large public art budget as Art Program Manager for the San Diego International Airport. However, she is also a powerful advocate for emerging local artists. Constance has been involved with ArtWalk since she moved to San Diego in 2006.
- Patricia Frischer, coordinator at San Diego Visual Arts Network spends almost all of her time on activities that support artists in San Diego in varied ways. San Diego Visual Arts Network sponsors the interactive arts area at the festival, and Patricia is a mentor to artists throughout the County.
- Debra Schwartz, CEO and Neville Billimoria, Senior Vice President of Membership/Marketing and Chief Advocacy Officer at Mission Federal Credit Union and the entire Mission Federal team have been tremendously supportive of the San Diego art community for many years and as a result of their title sponsorship, ArtWalk remains a free community event. The festival as it is known today would not be possible without Mission Federal.
