FALL TRENDS 2011
With the next season just around the corner it’s hard to imagine having to shop for Autumn/Winter clothing already, huh? I’m finding great coats, jackets, and boots on sale right now but I’d feel like a mad women buying them in the midst of these 100 degree and up days here. But then I look and oh my it’s already August, where did our summer go? The summers seem to perish quicker than a freshly sliced apple, but no fear, you’ll love shopping early for the cooler days ahead when you see what’s in style this coming season.
The runways for F/W 2011 are flourishing with everything from bright hued furs (or faux furs, whichever you prefer), to mixing prints like a chameleon you’re sure to find a trend that leaves you scrambling to find your keys and head to the nearest mall. But wait a minute, why waste all that time going from store…to store…to store and leaving feeling nothing but tired, and hopeless? That’s why I’m bringing them to you, from the comfort of your own home. I’ve been on a virtual hunt to bring you the best of the best. Why would I do less? So listen up ladies, or read up in this case, you don’t want to be the last one to know this season.
MIXING IT UP
Mixing prints might have been a moral sin until now. The fall runways were packed with the blending of different prints, colors, and textures. If you want to try this trend, take it from the pros like Proenza Schouler, Rag & Bone and Dries Van Noten. If anyone’s nailed this look it’s by far The Man Repeller herself, Leandra Medine. If you haven’t seen her blog already (www.manrepeller.com) you will find she is the print mixing artist.
DYING FOR FUR
Who would have known that a pastel pink fur jacket would be chic? I mean even the words just don’t sound right. But ah-ha! A surprise to your eyes it’s stunning, feminine and still a bit rock and roll. Hold your red paint buckets PETA, it’s also faux fur friendly. We’re loving the rich, tasteful colors designers have added to a winter staple. Just about every well known designer has drenched their fall and winter collections with a healthy dose of candy colored furs. Remember though, keep it simple 70’s chic when wearing dyed fur, take inspiration from The Row, Missoni, Marni, and Gucci.
NO MORE MINI
That’s right, it’s almost time to say “Bye-bye” to those oh so mini skirts of summer. We’re seeing a lot more structured lady-like clothing for fall style. Which is a nice change since we can all totally get away with the baggy T-shirt, cut off denim shorts, and flip flops look all summer. Now since we aren’t all runway size, this is a very wearable trend for just about any body type. Hooray! There’s also many variations of the mid calf skirt. Like with a high slit seen from Preen F/W11, or in a bright hue color. Try these skirts with a simple t-shirt and some flats for a chic daytime look. And for night, slip on point-toed heels and some statement jewelry. You’ll be feeling ladylike and looking chic with this trend.
ON THE BRIGHTER SIDE
It’s no surprise to us that the bold colors, and neon hues aren’t going away. Color blocking has been delightful all summer, and fun to wear too! Most of you probably already own a top, blazer, or pair of shorts in a neon bright color. But what’s best to transfer this look into a fall/winter appropriate wardrobe is to snag yourself a pair of brightly colored pair of pants. Try it with minimal accessories, a neutral top and let the pants do the all the talking!
